more about ADSL
If you are currently surfing the web with a typical modem you will be familiar with bursts, pauses, long access time and slow motion in the Internet highway during peak times. DSL technology may bring relief – ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line).
ADSL converts a standard telephone line into a high-speed digital pipe. Modem/router technology converts existing copper twisted pair telephones lines in place into a digital line just before it enters office/home into access paths for multimedia and high speed communication. It is so called Asymmetric because it moves data faster from the Internet to you (downstream up to 2mbps) than from you to the Internet (upstream up to 256kbps). An ADSL splitter divides the telephone line to carry both voice and data traffic simultaneously.
ADSL is perfect for Internet access where typically small packets are sent into the web in order to retrieve large amounts of information from the Web. ADSL technology is distance sensitive, therefore the local loop length determines the maximum speed (bandwidth) of the ADSL service to the end user. We can check easily to ensure a customer can receive ADSL with just a postcode.
Advantages of using ADSL:
- Permanent Connection – 24x7
- Fixed Fee
- Simultaneous voice and data traffic
- High download speeds
- No telephone charges
- 5 – 25 times faster than modem 56K modem
